The equivalent of ss for Mac OSX is netstat, part of Network Utility. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202790

I am trying to get some mods installed for System Shock 2 on Mac. The problem I am encountering is that when I run the SS2Tool using Wine, it says that I 'need Windows Vista or later' and won't install the tool... This is using the latest versions of both Wine and the Tool. Would someone please help me get the tool installed on mac? Thanks for any and all help!

First, I'm going to make two assumptions in writing this:
1) You're working with GOG's official Mac version (as opposed to the Windows version in your own WINE wrapper)
2) You have a working knowledge of how to use 'Show Package Contents...' to delve into the inner contents of Mac .app files, and you know how to interpret folder paths in OS X.
To answer your question, I just reinstalled SS2 on my Mac and installed the latest version of SS2 Tool. Here's what I did:
a) Right-click/Control-Left click on System Shock 2, and navigate to this folder path:
/Contents/Resources/game/System Shock 2
b) Right-click/Control-Left click on the System Shock 2 app here, and navigate to this folder path:
/drive_c/GOG Games/System Shock 2
Place your downloaded file for SS2 Tool here.
c) Go back to the root level of the second System Shock 2 app. You should see an app called 'Wineskin' here. Launch it. Now, go to Advanced > Tools > Config Utility (wincfg).
A window called 'Wine configuration' should pop up. Under the Applications tab, change 'Windows Version' to Windows 7. Click Apply and then Okay.
d) Close the window. Go to the Configuration tab. Under Windows EXE, paste this path:
/GOG Games/System Shock 2/SS2Tool-v.6.1.0.8.exe (NB: You may need to change this to match the filename of whatever version of SS2 Tool you have.) For
Then click on Test Run. The SS2 Tool installer and online updater will launch. Make sure you also allow it to install the Visual C++ 2008 Libraries. Be patient, as the installer will take some time, especially for when it downloads its required files.
e) After the installer is finished, change the path name under Configuration > Windows EXE to:
/GOG Games/System Shock 2/ss2bmm.exe
This will launch the Blue Mod Manager when you launch your game normally in the Finder, allowing you to manage mods and launch the game.
Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, I can post screenshots of each step.

Apparently, the GOG version (yes, I am using the GOG version for Mac) is not the latest version of system shock 2 (2.44) and is instead version 2.42. Will this matter? Should I do something to install 2.44? I tried running the patch installer, but I don't think I know what I'm doing with Wine, as it doesn't work. Thanks for the help!

I'm glad you found it useful! Yes, they seemingly haven't updated the Mac build to the latest version of NewDark (as they note in their changelog for the current version).
However, that shouldn't be a problem. The SS2 Tool, when you run it, will automatically download the latest community NewDark engine update from the Internet and install it. FYI, I didn't install any other patches or updates from GOG; I just ran it right on top of a fresh download the latest version of the main Mac app.

This looks really promising, however the wineskin advanced menu's button to open winecfg doesn't work. In the top-left of the window, it flashes 'a tool is running', but that's it. I've tried going into Winetricks and selecting the 'Set Windows version to Windows 7', but that doesn't work either. Any idea what I can do?
I am using the Steam version of this and apologies for this not really being the place to put a question about it, it was just the most relevant place.

Sometimes Wineskin/WINE has a tendency to hang, mainly because processes spawned by Wineskin haven't quit properly -- this is especially the case if the app you're trying to run has crashed or has quit improperly. In other words, Wineskin can think that a Windows app/process is still running, even though it isn't.
For your issue, try rebooting or logging out and in again. Another thing you could try doing (if you don't wish to reboot or log out) is to use Activity Monitor to search for all running processes with the word 'wine' in them, and force quit them.
Hope that helps!

It looks to me like you're potentially missing some libraries. Try installing the 2012 Visual C++ Redistributible for Visual Studio, linked here: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4790.0
Otherwise, you could just try launching the game executable directly by changing Wineskin to open shock2.exe.

You need to press 'Select game folder...' button in Blue Mod Manager, the game folder will be preselected, just press OK and launch the game. It did work for me.
Now the question is: how to activate all those downloaded files, which came with the tool's installation? My game is still running with original low-res textures after all these procedures :-(
